(VOVWORLD) - The Vietnamese team has won 7 gold medals at the 2017 Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 29) in Malaysia.

On Monday, cyclist Nguyen Thi That brought home the 6th gold medal. Fencer Vu Thanh An has successfully retained his gold medal in the sabre competition, earning Vietnam their 7th gold at SEA Games 29. Swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien is expected to bring more gold medals for Vietnam as she will compete in 2 categories on Monday evening.
On Sunday, Vietnam’s wushu athletes bagged 4 gold medals, 1 by Hoang Thi Phuong Giang and 3 by Duong Thuy Vy. Archer Chu Duc Anh secured a gold medal in the men's recurve (one-string bow) event. Vietnam’s gymnasts successfully defended their gold medal in the men's team competition.

One of the gold medalists, Dinh Phuong Thanh, said: “At first we were nervous. But later on we got better psychologically. Young athletes try their best at the Games to continue the success of their predecessors.”
Vietnam’s U22 football team defeated the Philippines 4-0, securing the 3rd consecutive win in the qualification round of SEA Games 29. Vietnamese female footballers also triumphed over their Myanmar rivals 3-1, their second victory in the tournament.
As of Monday afternoon, Vietnam ranks 3rd in the medal tally.
