Vietnam yet to reopen int'l tourism market to avoid infection risk
(VOVWORLD) - The National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control has agreed to pause the reopening of international tourism at the current time due to the risk of spreading the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) remaining high due to complicated developments of the pandemic globally.
An agreement was reached during a meeting held on Thursday to discuss issues relating to immigration, quarantine practices for experts and high-tech workers entering the country, ways to bring home Vietnamese citizens abroad, and ideas about restarting international tourism activities. Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long said Vietnam has contained the epidemic so far, but the entry of experts and skilled labourers from epidemic-hit countries poses a high risk of infection.
Deputy Minister Long stressed the need to continue strictly managing those arriving from abroad in line with regulations to avoid the risk of infection spreading among the local community.
