(VOVworld) – East Timor’s President Taur Matan Ruak spoke highly of relations with Vietnam after receiving a letter of credentials from Hoang Anh Tuan, the new Vietnamese Ambassador to East Timor and Indonesia.

The President hailed Vietnam for being one of first countries to recognize East Timor’s independence, supporting its bid to become an ASEAN member, and assisting East Timor’s economic development. He said he hopes Ambassador Tuan will work actively to further the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Ambassador Tuan also met with East Timor Minister of Commerce, Industry and Environment Constancio da Pinto and acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Roberto Suarez.
