(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received in Hanoi on Saturday Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister WangYi who is in Vietnam for an official visit and the 13th meeting of the Steering Committee for Vietnam-China Bilateral Cooperation.

Prime Minister Chinh said Vietnam treasures ties with China and considers China a priority in its foreign policy. The Vietnamese Prime Minister thanked China for its vaccine support for Vietnam, particularly 3 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine announced during Mr. Wang Yi’s ongoing visit. Mr. Chinh asked China to continue to help Vietnam access more vaccines, transfer vaccine production technology to Vietnam, and cooperate with Vietnam in pandemic control in border areas. He urged China to facilitate Vietnamese trade of agro-forestry products and fruits.

In regard to the East Sea issue, Prime Minister Chinh emphasized that the two countries’ law enforcement forces need to abide by common perception shared by high-ranking leaders, promptly deal with and settle disputes, maintain a peaceful environment at sea, comply with international law, and ensure security, safety, and freedom of navigation and aviation.

Mr. Wang Yi said China respects its friendship, comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam. He said China is ready to help Vietnam in the fight against COVID-19.

Earlier the same day, Vietnamese Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son held talks with Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi. The two sides discussed bilateral ties and ways to enhance Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and other issues of mutual concern.
