(VOVworld) – A seminar on Vietnam’s national green growth strategy took place in Hanoi on Tuesday with a focus on how to realize the Paris agreement and share experiences with the EU.
The strategy illustrates Vietnam’s strong commitment to implementing the millennium development goals (MDGs).
But more support from the international community is necessary for Vietnam to achieve the MDGs, especially the action plan for green growth and pilot projects.
Vietnam has launched specific activities to realize its commitments to the 2015 UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP21).
Pham Van Tan, Deputy Director of the Department of Hydrometeorology and Climate Change under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, said: “Green growth hasn’t been mentioned directly in the Paris agreement. The target to mitigate and adapt to climate change and the national strategy on green growth has demonstrated Vietnam’s will and voluntary commitments to international deals. Vietnam should turn the current voluntary mitigation into mandatory mitigation in accordance with international regulations.”
