(VOVWORLD) - 183 young people left Ho Chi Minh City on Monday for Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago to learn about the economic and defense activities of soldiers and local islanders.

The group includes Youth Union officials, entrepreneurs, students, artists, doctors, and journalists. Bui Quang Huy, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, said before their departure: “This year’s trip, the 10th so far, coincides with the 30th anniversary of Vietnamese naval soldiers’ battle to defend Collins, Lansdowne, and Johnson reefs against foreign invaders. Our activities pay tribute to the sacrifices of our predecessors and express our shared responsibility for Vietnam’s sea and island defense”.
An art performance is staged at Cat Lai port, Ho Chi Minh City, on April 16, 2018, to see off the youngsters to Truong Sa archipelago.

The young representatives will participate in a writing contest, a photo competition, and an art performance, and transfer water conservation and waste treatment technology to people on Truong Sa and the DK1 platform. They will deliver to local people 90,000 USD, plus refrigerators, gymnastic equipment, and school supplies donated by mainlanders.
