Three days after her surgery, Hoa was able to see clearly without glasses. She is one of the many cataract patients successfully treated by Major Dr. Huynh Huu Nguyen, who specializes in phacoemulsification, a modern cataract surgery technique widely used in top-tier eye hospitals. The surgery takes 5-10 minutes. After their surgery, patients can be discharged from the hospital with improved vision after resting 1-2 hours.

"I always do my best. I start working early in the morning and rest only after the last patient has been treated. I don’t want them to make a second trip or spend extra money. To maintain our high quality, I’m continuously learning from experts and colleagues from other hospitals," said Doctor Nguyen.

In 2014, Dr. Nguyen was selected for advanced specialist training, earning Level 1 and Level 2 certifications in ophthalmology. As a department leader, Nguyen focuses on team collaboration, staff training, and strict adherence to medical protocols.

"Dr. Nguyen has a strong dedication and sense of responsibility. He performs 10 to 20 surgeries daily, with peak days exceeding 30 cases. The hospital is now sending more doctors for ophthalmology training to support the department," said Tran Ngoc Cuong, a staff members of Military Hospital 120.

Colonel Dr. Tran Manh Hung, the Hospital’s Director, says Dr. Nguyen is considered a role model for tireless devotion to the patients. His contributions have helped to establish Military Hospital 120 as a leading medical institution in the Mekong Delta region.
