Vietnamese youth revitalize historical footage

(VOVWORLD) - Young members of the Skyline group have restored portraits of heroic martyrs and recreated historical films to spread historical stories and images in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the south and national reunification. Their works connects the past and present and inspire patriotism among the young generation.

The photo restoration project of the Skyline group was initiated in 2021 by Phuong Quang Trung of Hai Duong province. Using both conventional manual techniques and artificial intelligence (AI), Trung and his teammates have revived old, faded, and blurry photos of heroic martyrs. They have also applied AI to recreate historical films using the old photos.

Trung said: "Recently, we produced a short film about the commandos of the Sac forest, who were the heroes that contributed to the victory of April 30, 1975. We used AI to recreate the movements and shared them on social media platforms so that the community, especially young people, can visualize the historical event and the heroic spirit of their predecessors."

For each Skyline member, the restored images are more than a blend of technology and art, they embody dedication, meticulousness, and emotion. Luu Hoang Vu, a Skyline member, said: "AI technology has helped us tremendously. We can create videos that simulate gestures, movements, and speech in the most realistic way."

Skyline team has restored thousands of portraits of martyrs and gave them to their families. Le Van Phuc, another Skyline member, said: "We searched for the most accurate information and sources. In addition to researching on the internet, we consult historical documents, seek insights from historians, and interview war veterans."

The Skyline members’ dedication and meaningful work have helped preserve and promote historical values, rekindle national pride, and pay tribute to those who fought and sacrificed their lives for national independence and freedom.
