(VOVworld) – Four suspected Taliban gunmen Thursday broke into the luxurious Serena Hotel in the centre of Kabul and inflicted casualties. According to a spokesperson for the Afghan Interior Ministry, the gunmen walked into the hotel through a back door and posed as hotel restaurant guests. They then opened fire and made seriously injured 3 people, including two guards and a foreign worker before being shot dead. The spokesperson said all of the hotel guests were escorted safely to their rooms and denied reports that many guests had been taken hostage.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack. They had previously promised a violent campaign to disrupt the presidential election coming up next month.
