He said that on January 1st Vietnam officially became the Chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 2020 and a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for 2020 and 2021. So Vietnam has many opportunities to show its position regionally and globally, said Deputy Prime Minister Minh.
He added that by selecting “Cohesive and Responsive” as the theme of the ASEAN Year 2020, Vietnam aims to affirm that solidarity is decisive for ASEAN’s sustainability. Vietnam believes it will well accomplish its ASEAN Chair 2020, contributing to the bloc’s cohesion and proactive response and the realization of the ASEAN 2025 Vision.
Being the ASEAN Chair, Vietnam also expects to boost connectivity between regional and global organizations via its concurrent capacity as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, so as to help elevate ASEAN’s status and confirm the bloc’s central role in the region and the wider world.
