While addressing the 17th Forum “State and Private sector”, Hun Sen said the Cambodian National Rescue Party (CNRP) and its support groups have incited garment workers to go on illegal strikes, participate in anti-government demonstrations, and ask for unreasonable salaries. The Prime Minister said the CNRP sees workers as a political springboard to destroy the Cambodian investment environment, as well as workers’ interests and job opportunities for young Cambodians.
The CNRP and its 6 support groups have organised several demonstrations since last July’s controversial General Election. According to the election’s results, the ruling Cambodian People Party (CPP) led by Prime Minister Hun Sen won 68 seats in the Cambodian National Assembly while the CNRP won 55. The CNRP accused the ruling party of election fraud, refused to acknowledge the election results, boycotted the new National Assembly, and held demonstrations demanding Prime Minister Hun Sen’s resignation and a new election.
