China warns of “lose-lose” situation if EU initiates trade war

(VOVWORLD) - A trade war between the EU and China will create a "lose-lose" situation, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said while co-chairing the 26th China-France Strategic Dialogue with Emmanuel Bonne, diplomatic adviser to the French president, on Saturday in Beijing.

Wang said China is ready to work with France to strengthen bilateral relations, make them a driving force for the development of China-Europe relations, and promote global peace and stability.

He outlined four proposals to achieve this goal, including a more proactive bilateral agenda, guided by the consensus of the two heads of state, and practical cooperation that leverages the traditional strengths of both sides and explores new areas of collaboration, such as artificial intelligence, new materials, high-end equipment, environmental protection, and smart health.

Minister Wang emphasized continuing to enhance the positive impact of the China-France Year of Culture and Tourism, facilitating people-to-people exchanges. He also stressed the importance of jointly safeguarding multilateralism.

The Chinese diplomat urged Europe to take a constructive approach, seeking mutually acceptable solutions through dialogue.

Bonne said France does not want a trade war, and hopes for mutually beneficial cooperation between Europe and China.
