Countries congratulate CDU/CSU coalition on German election victory
(VOVWORLD) - The leaders of the US, France, and Ukraine on Monday congratulated Germany's conservative bloc of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the Christian Social Union (CSU) after winning early parliamentary elections.

On his Truth Social platform, President Donald Trump congratulated Germany's conservative bloc on its win and called it a "great day" for German people.
French President Emmanuel Macron sent his congratulations to CDU/CSU leader Friedrich Merz and affirmed his determination to cooperate with Germany. Macron is on his way to Washington for a meeting with Trump, scheduled for Monday, to discuss security issues of Ukraine and Europe.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky congratulated Germany's conservative leader Friedrich Merz on his party's win in legislative elections, saying he looks forward to continuing to work with Germany to bring real peace closer to Ukraine and to strengthen Europe.
NATO chief Mark Rutte congratulated Mr. Merz, insisting on his role and Germany in pushing Europe to increase defense spending.
According to preliminary results of the snap elections in Germany, the CDU/CSU bloc came in first, securing 29% of votes. On Monday, Merz will start efforts to form a new government. The German media say it will likely be a three-party coalition.
