(VOVworld) - Cuba and the US held their first counterterrorism technical meeting, said the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday.

According to the ministry, the talks took place in an atmosphere of mutual respect and professionalism, where both sides agreed on the importance of cooperating against terrorism.
The Cuban delegation included officials from the Ministries of Interior, and Foreign Affairs, the Attorney General’s office, and General Customs. The US delegation included officials from the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Justice, and the US Embassy in Havana.
Cooperation in counter-terrorism is one of several important topics discussed by the US and Cuba since they began normalizing relations after more than half a century. The US considered the talks an opportunity to bring together technical experts of the US and Cuba to discuss this topic.
