Donors pledge support for Vietnam’s climate change response
(VOVworld) – Donors of the Support Program to Respond to Climate Change have applauded the Vietnamese Government’s efforts to improve policy on climate change adaptation and carrying out response projects.
The commendation was made at a meeting in Hanoi on Wednesday between the National Committee on Climate Change and the program donors. The Committee reported that since 2009 the program has implemented more than 200 relevant policies and raised 1 billion USD for activities responding to climate change in Vietnam. Several strategic policies have been made with good comments on their schedule and efficiency. At the meeting, donors pledged their continued support for Vietnam in this matter.

Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai, who is also Deputy Head of the National Committee on Climate Change, told participants that the Government will earmark approximately 135 million USD for climate change adaptation, with a special focus on afforestation. The plan has involved the private business sector in developed region to plan forests instead of government agencies who will provide assistance and management.
