The Mizan news agency reported last month that Iran had appointed Alireza Enayati as its ambassador to Saudi Arabia, who hasn’t yet announced the reopening of its embassy in Iran or the appointment of an ambassador to the Islamic Republic.
Diplomatic relations between the two countries were severed in 2016, after Saudi Arabia’s embassy was stormed following Riyadh’s execution of a Shi’ite Muslim cleric. The two countries also disagreed on the Syria-Yemen conflict.
On March 3, the two agreed to re-establish diplomatic ties, pledging to re-opening their embassies and representative missions, and implementing economic and security agreements signed 20 years ago.
