Lam Dong expects to have 90% of the chains’ products sold through contracts and will monitor food safety from processing to sales to ensure product quality.
From now till the end of this year, Lam Dong will grant licenses to 11 chains producing key local products such as vegetables, tea, coffee, and dairy products.
The plan aims to ensure food safety and cut greenhouse gas emissions. The chains should be based on links between farmers, cooperatives, and enterprises.
The program will train 330 locals in processing, packaging, food safety and new technologies. It will also help to pilot systems to trace the origin of products through various methods.
Nguyen Van Son, Director of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said: “What we need to do now is gather competent farmers to produce agricultural products meeting the requirements of businesses. We have combined different programs like increasing advertisements, training farmers in production processes, connecting markets, and supporting processing models and postharvest maintenance. We’ll also help four key products - vegetables, flowers, farming tours, and Aribica coffee – leverage the Dalat trademark.”
