Mekong region leaders discuss anti-human trafficking

(VOVworld) – Senior officials of Mekong sub-region countries gathered in Hanoi on Thursday to discuss measures against human trafficking. Participants at the 8th Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM-8) evaluated regional cooperation on human trafficking prevention in the 2008-2010 period, and discussed plans for this year and next year. Pham Quy Ngo, Vietnam's Vice Minister of Public Security told the meeting that after 7 years of implementation, the Coordinated Mekong Ministerial Initiative against Trafficking (COMMIT) has produced encouraging results. "Initiated by 6 regional countries, COMMIT is a unique, dynamic and creative process in Southeast Asia. It has enormously supported countries in dealing the poblem of human trafficking", Ngo said.
