Myanmar: Earthquake death toll surpasses 2,700

(VOVWORLD) - The death toll from the devastating earthquake in Myanmar has climbed to 2,719, with over 4,500 people injured and 441 still missing, according to Min Aung Hlaing, Chairman of the State Administration Council of Myanmar.

He announced the updated figures at a donation ceremony held on April 1 in Naypitaw to support earthquake victims.

Meanwhile, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has announced plans to provide a 3 million USD aid package to assist those affected by the 7.9-magnitude earthquake that struck on March 28. The aid package, currently under review for rapid approval by the ADB Board of Directors, will be distributed through the United Nations World Food Program (WFP). The assistance aims to address urgent humanitarian needs, including food distribution, drinking water, medical supplies, and shelter.
