Ambassador Caroline Beresford was speaking on the occasion of New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon's official visit to Vietnam and his participation in the second ASEAN Future Forum.

According to Ambassador Beresford, the visit aims to reinforce and expand relations with Vietnam, a leading partner of New Zealand in the region and the world.

PM Luxon is accompanied by a large business delegation, who are expected to sign new cooperation agreements with Vietnamese partners in agriculture, education, scientific research, and technology. The establishment of the Vietnam-New Zealand Maritime Dialogue mechanism last December opened new discussions on ways to promote maritime cooperation.

Ambassador Beresford said PM Luxon's participation in the ASEAN Future Forum reflects New Zealand's strong support for Vietnam's initiative and demonstrates New Zealand's desire to understand how all parties view the future of the region and cooperation between ASEAN and its partners.
