(VOVWORLD) - Heavy rain and flooding have wreaked havoc in central Vietnam in recent days. By Tuesday afternoon, 133 people were dead or missing, thousands of hectares of crops were inundated, and hundreds of thousands of cattle had been swept away. During a trip to Quang Binh province on Tuesday, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung promised that the Vietnamese Party and State will not leave anyone hungry and cold from natural disasters. He urged Quang Binh provincial leaders to provide local people with daily necessities and fresh water and protect people’s lives following the catastrophes.
Given prolonged heavy rain, Deputy Prime Minister Dung called for deployment of search and rescue forces in flooded areas to rescue people and deliver food, fresh water, and medicine. He asked Quang Binh province to protect key irrigation works, monitor reservoirs, and repair roads and bridges damaged by flood water.
