PM meets House of Representatives Deputy Speaker, Governor-General of Australia

(VOVWORLD) -Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Deputy Speaker of the Australian House of Representatives and Chairperson of the Australia-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians’ Group Sharon Claydon in Canberra on Thursday, within the framework of his official visit to Australia.

He appreciated the cooperation between the Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) and the Australian Parliament, saying he hopes that the relations between the two legislative bodies as well as the two friendship parliamentarians’ groups will continue to be strengthened, particularly through promoting the exchange of young parliamentarians and female ones.

The Prime Minister suggested that the two Parliaments continue to concretize the signed agreements, support and monitor the implementation of commitments between the two governments, and realize a practical and effective Vietnam-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Prime Minister Chinh suggested that Australia, a multi-ethnic and multicultural country, consider and recognize the Vietnamese community as Australia's ethnic minority.

Claydon congratulated the successful talks between Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and said she is happy when the two countries upgraded relationship to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. She added that the Australian House of Representatives looks forward to implementing the contents of this new cooperation framework, including promoting cooperation between the two friendship parliamentary groups in particular and the two legislative bodies in general.

Earlier on Thursday, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Australian Governor-General David Hurley in Canberra. PM Chinh expressed his pleasure to meet Governor-General Hurley and his spouse again after their state visit to Vietnam in April 2023. He extended the regards of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong and other key Vietnamese leaders to the hosts.

The PM congratulated Australia on successfully organizing the special summit marking the 50th anniversary of ASEAN-Australia relations.

The Governor General expressed his wish to revisit Vietnam soon. He applauded the two countries upgrading their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which he said is an important milestone for deepening Vietnam-Australia relations, bringing practical benefits for the people of the two countries and making positive contributions to peace and stability.
