Held in Muscat, the Omani capital, the talks on Saturday involved Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff. Witkoff described the discussions as positive and constructive.

Speaking to CBS News on Sunday, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth echoed the sentiment, calling the talks effective and a good step. He reiterated that the US hopes for a diplomatic solution to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons but warned that the military stands ready for deeper intervention if necessary.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi described the atmosphere in Oman as constructive and calm.

The White House announced Sunday that a second round of talks will take place on Saturday. According to Axios, the US has proposed that the next round be held in Rome.
