This stimulus program in 13 Mekong Delta localities from June until the end of 2020 aims to involve as many travel companies as possible and expand the cooperation among local authorities, travel firms, and tourism organizations.

Tran Huu Hiep, Vice Chairman of the Mekong Delta Tourism Association, said: “The tourism sector has a twin goal of controlling the COVID-19 and rejuvenating its operation to lure visitors to the Mekong Delta region. We are striving to generate jobs and improve the livelihoods of local labors, especially those turning jobless during the pandemic. Safety measures to prevent infections among travelers are given priority. The tourism sector also expects to increase its contribution to the state budget collection.”

Highlights of regional tourism activities next year will include the Vietnam International Travel Mart – VITM Can Tho 2021, a festival dedicated to the Mekong Delta traditional cakes, a “don ca tai tu” (southern opera) competition, a culture, sport, tourism week in Hau Giang province and the ethnic Khmer people's Ok-Om-Bok (worshipping the moon) festival in Tra Vinh province.
