The sources said the meeting is expected to be held behind closed doors and it is up to Russia, the president of the council for the month of February, to confirm the timing.

Earlier on the same day, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres criticized North Korea's missile test as a "clear violation of UN Security Council resolutions."

The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on Monday that the country test-fired a Hwasong-12 mid-range ballistic missile on Sunday. According to KCNA, the test was aimed at assessing this type of missile being produced and deployed, as well as determining the overall accuracy of the weapon system.
