(VOVworld) -  The US has signaled it will work with the winner of the Philippines presidential election, Rodrigo Duterte.

White House Press secretary Josh Earnest said on Tuesday that the US wants to enhance and deepen relations with the new Philippines government and appreciated the smooth organization of the presidential election on Monday.
US State Department spokeswoman Elizabeth Trudeau said that Washington respects the choice of the Philippines people and would gladly work with the leaders they've chosen.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang said on Tuesday that Beijing hopes the new government will continue on its current path with China, properly resolve differences and get relations back on a healthy track. Lu said China attaches great importance to maintaining its relationship with the Philippines.
