A White House official said President Trump has been clear that he is focused on peace and the US needs its partners to be committed to that goal as well. The US is pausing and reviewing the aid to ensure that it is contributing to a solution to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which is entering its fourth year, said the official, speaking on the condition of anonymity.

During a news briefing on Monday, Mr. Trump said that a mineral deal between the US and Ukraine could still be signed, but President Zelensky "should be more appreciative" for the US aid he has received over the last three years.

Trump condemned Zelensky for saying that the end of the conflict could be “very, very far away”, calling it the worst statement Zelensky could have made. He said it shows that Zelensky doesn't want peace as long as he has America's backing.

The Independent quoted UK armed forces minister Luke Pollard on Monday as saying that France and Britain haven’t yet agreed on a ceasefire proposal for Ukraine. Pollard said on Times Radio that various options are on the table but no agreement has been reached. Discussions with American and European partners are continuing.
