(VOVworld) - Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong delivered a speech in a meeting with Japanese social representatives in Tokyo on Thursday. Entitled “Vision in the development of Vietnamese-Japanese relations for peace and prosperity in Asia”, the Party leader said despite historical fluctuations, both nations have overcome past challenges to promote trust, economic connection, sustainable development and future orientation.

Citing economic cooperation, the Party leader said Japan has contributed 30% of the 90 billion US dollars of ODA granted to Vietnam, with a total FDI capital of Japan worth over 37.5 billion dollars and projected bilateral trade revenue of 30 billion dollars this year. He commented on possible tension due to territorial and island conflicts, including complicated situation in the East Sea: “Peace, stability, cooperation and prosperity in Asia-Pacific require all regional countries, especially major countries, to act with transparency and responsibly for regional and world interests. Efficient mechanism should be developed to foster peace, stability, security and prevention of conflicts and war while coping with conventional and non-conventional security threats.” Trong said.

Party leader Trong briefed participants on Vietnam’s progress over the past 30 years of renovation, key issues at the upcoming Party Congress and visions for future bilateral cooperation: “Strengthening Vietnam Japan friendship and cooperation is for both countries and regional interests. Vietnam considers Japan as its leading, longterm and important partner. We will promote our comprehensive relations while strengthening trust, economic engagement, cooperation, stable development towards the future.”
