Vietnam asks WHO for support to become a vaccine production hub
(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh held a phone talk on Thursday with World Health Organization Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. The Prime Minister highlighted WHO’s cooperation and support for Vietnam’s health care sector in the last 45 years.

He asked WHO to help Vietnam continue to access COVID-19 vaccines under COVAX facility and pledged prompt vaccination to curb the spread of the virus. Prime Minister Chinh proposed that WHO help Vietnam become one of the vaccine production centers in the West Pacific.
Highlighting the capacity of the Vietnamese health care sector and Vietnam’s capability of producing vaccines at international standards, the Prime Minister praised the WHO Chief’s recommendation of sending experts to help Vietnam in this regard.
The WHO Chief acknowledged Vietnam’s proposals on early access of vaccine resources as well as becoming a vaccine production hub in the region. He promised to send experts to Vietnam for research and to produce vaccines at international standards. Tedros said WHO will do its utmost to help Vietnam fight the pandemic as well as improve community health.
