Vietnam begins its term as UN Women Executive Board member

(VOVWORLD) -Vietnam reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with UN Women and fellow Executive Board members to contribute to global efforts in promoting gender equality, accelerating progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and ensuring that no one is left behind, said a senior diplomat.

Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, attended the annual session of the Executive Board of the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) as a board member for the 2025-2027 term in New York on Monday. This was the board’s first session of 2025 with a focus on improving operational efficiency and shaping the 2026-2029 Strategic Plan.

Ambassador Giang highlighted Vietnam’s efforts and achievements in promoting gender equality, particularly its high proportion of female National Assembly deputies and women scientists, as well as its early adoption of the National Strategy on Gender Equality for 2020-2031.

The UN Women Executive Board comprises 41 member states elected based on geographic representation. It is responsible for overseeing and guiding the organization’s activities.

As a key policymaking body, the board plays a vital role in advancing global gender equality, empowering women and girls, and supporting member states in achieving gender-related sustainable development goals.

Vietnam was elected to the UN Women Executive Board for the 2025-2027 term and officially assumed its role on January 1, 2025.
