Vietnam, Canada hold 3rd defense policy dialogue in Hanoi

(VOVWORLD) - Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, and Minister of National Defense of Vietnam General Phan Van Giang welcomed in Hanoi on Thursday Stefanie Beck, Deputy Minister of National Defense of Canada, who is on an official visit to Vietnam.

During the meeting, General Giang reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to strengthening ties with Canada, recognizing Canada’s significant role and influence in regional and global affairs.

He thanked the Canadian Ministry of National Defense for its support in training and UN peacekeeping efforts and emphasized the importance of further cooperation. He expressed his hope that the two sides will build upon existing agreements, expanding collaboration in key areas such as training, peacekeeping, defense industry, war legacy remediation, and border management.

Earlier, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, member of the Party Central Committee, member of the Central Military Commission, and Deputy Minister of National Defense of Vietnam, co-chaired the 3rd Vietnam-Canada Defense Policy Dialogue with Ms. Beck.

The two sides signed the minutes of the dialogue, reaffirming their commitment to maintaining regular consultations, delegation exchanges, and joint efforts in UN peacekeeping, defense industry collaboration, and mitigation of war consequences. Both sides also agreed to enhance coordination and mutual support in multilateral mechanisms and international forums.
