Vietnam faces complicated HIV/AIDS epidemic
(VOVworld) – Vietnam has over 218,000 HIV carriers, including 66,000 people who have developed AIDS. An average of 34 people were tested HIV positive every day in the first 3 quarters of this year.
The rate of female HIV carriers has increased year on year. HIV transmission through sexual route has exceeded transmission by blood. The number of HIV infected people aged over 30 has been rising. Bui Hoang Duc of the Department for HIV/AIDS prevention and control said a national month for the prevention and control of HIV/AIDS will take place from November 10 to December 12 under the theme “Towards no new HIV infected people”. The program will include conferences on measures to prevent HIV infection for people at high risk and meetings for HIV carriers to share information and have early access to HIV/AIDS preventive and treatment services.
