(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam applauds its cooperative relationship with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) over the years, especially in agricultural and rural development and transforming the sustainable food system in Vietnam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said during a reception for FAO Director General Qu Dongyu, who is visiting Vietnam this week.

PM Chinh asked that the FAO continue to support Vietnam in restructuring its agricultural sector toward higher added value, green growth, industrialization, rural urbanization, smart development, climate change adaptation, and digital transformation.
Vietnam will cooperate with the FAO in international programs to eradicate hunger, reduce poverty, and share experience with African countries in unlocking land potential, Mr. Chinh said.
The FAO Director General praised Vietnam's achievements in poverty reduction, agricultural development – particularly the successful One Commune One Product (OCOP) program, and the export of agricultural products, especially rice and fruit.
He said Vietnam is a role model with valuable achievements many countries admire and lessons many countries want to learn from. The FAO supports Vietnam's initiatives in sustainable, green agriculture like the ‘one million hectares of high-quality, low-emission rice’ program.
