Speaking on Wednesday during a meeting with US Senator Patricia Murray, Vice Chairwoman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Ms. Thanh called on the US Congress to continue supporting efforts to address the consequences of war, which remain a key pillar of bilateral cooperation.

She also urged US lawmakers to back initiatives that help the Vietnamese community in the US thrive and contribute more actively to both American society and Vietnam-US relations.

Senator Murray reaffirmed that the US Congress, as well as she personally, highly values the relationship with Vietnam.

She noted that since the elevation of ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in September 2023, Vietnam has become one of the US’s most important partners in the Indo-Pacific region.

The Senator also emphasized strong congressional support for ongoing bilateral cooperation programs focused on war legacy issues.

The meeting was part of Ms. Thanh’s visit to New York for the 69th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW).

Later the same day, Ms. Thanh visited Maryland and met with Governor Wes Moore.
