(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam will take an active part in the upcoming G20 Summit in Osaka, Japan, according to Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Vu Hong Nam.

In an interview with the Vietnam News Agency ahead of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s trip to attend the 2-day summit on Friday, Nam said Japan invited Vietnam to such an important meeting because of the two countries’ special bilateral relations. That also reflects Vietnam’s growing stature and the G20 members’ respect for Vietnam, he noted.
Mr. Nam said that as a special guest, Vietnam will actively participate in the event, and PM Phuc will deliver important speeches on key issues of the summit. The issues to be put on the table include the reform of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), the digital economy, and the environment, especially the marine environment. All three are closely related to Vietnam’s interests, he said.
“Vietnam has been one of the newest and one of the most active members of the WTO," he said, "PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc was the initiator of the 4th Industrial Revolution in Vietnam so, as the leader of the Vietnamese delegation, he will actively participate in discussions on the digital economy and plastic waste. Vietnam is a coastal country and plastic waste in the sea is threatening our economy,” Mr. Nam stated.
He said he believes Vietnam-Japan ties will grow faster and more strongly.
