The rescue team of the Vietnam People’s Army joined the international relief efforts on March 31, conducting search and rescue operations at the Bala Tidi apartment complex, Ottara Thiri Hospital, and Aye Chan Thar Hotel in Naypyitaw.
The team identified 32 locations with victims trapped under the rubble, carried out direct search and rescue efforts at 20 sites, and retrieved 21 bodies, which were handed over to local authorities and families.
They worked closely with rescue forces of Myanmar and Turkey to save the life of a 26-year-old man trapped for five days and provided free medical check-ups and medicine to more than 200 local residents.
The Ministry of Public Security’s rescue team rescued 7 victims and collaborated with teams from Myanmar, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Singapore to save additional 7 individuals.
They offered medical care and supplies to over 50 people, set up two temporary shelters for displaced victims, and disinfected an area of 5,000 square meters to prevent disease outbreaks. The team also carried out five community support initiatives and provided financial assistance to six families of the victims.
In recognition of these efforts, Myanmar’s Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement held a ceremony honoring international rescue teams from five Southeast Asian countries: Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
