(VOVworld) – Vietnam has reached five out of eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) ahead of schedule and appears likely to complete all the goals by 2015. Vietnam was among the top ten performers in income growth over the last 40 years by the UNDP Report on Human Development. These achievements were reported on Monday by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh at the 25th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva on Monday.

Minh said ensuring and promoting human rights is Vietnam’s unswerving policy, adding that worldwide economic difficulties have failed to prevent Vietnam from enhancing its social welfare policies in order to improve the life of the Vietnamese, particularly women, children, ethnic minorities, and people in disadvantaged areas.
The 2013 Constitution adopted by the National Assembly on November 28th, 2013, after millions of public comments, exclusively dedicates 36 of 120 provisions to human rights and the rights and obligations of Vietnamese citizens, which is obviously a step forward, consolidating the law-governed state in conformity with international norms on human rights.
With its experience and determination, Vietnam is ready to join the council’s efforts for human rights, freedom, and fundamental values.
