Late last month, WHO experts assessed the situation in Saudi Arabia, where confirmed MERS cases linked to hospitals continue to be recorded, but concluded that it is not yet unnecessary to issue a global health emergency alert. They said that 3 years after the first epidemic broke out, the MERS virus is still being transmitted in hospitals and by camels in a number of countries.
