(VOVWORLD) - Politicians around the world have sent their deep condolences to the Party, State and people of Vietnam upon the passing of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, and praised his role and contributions to Vietnam, the Communist movement, and progressive and left-wing politics around the world.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said Mr. Trong’s foresight on the relationship between Malaysia and Vietnam will endure and his legacy will inspire future generations throughout Southeast Asia.
A condolence letter from Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong said that over the course of a multi-decade career in the Communist Party of Vietnam, including 13 years as General Secretary, Mr. Trong’s leadership contributed significantly to Vietnam’s rapid economic growth and improvements in the lives of the Vietnamese people.
Former Deputy National Security Advisor of India Satyendra Pradhan described Mr. Trong as a shrewd political leader and strategic theorist. The General Secretary was also a benevolent leader who cared about the welfare of the people, he said.
Hero of Cuba Fernando González Llort, who is also President of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with Peoples (ICAP), said General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong was a leader of great theoretical and practical importance, with contributions momentous for the global revolutionary cause, with a political ideology that followed the path to socialism.
