(VOVworld) - Muslim students from many universities in Egypt joined demonstrations on Tuesday to protest the trial of 1200 Muslim Brotherhood members and supporters of ousted President Mohamed Morsi. Police had to use tear gas to disperse hundreds of Muslim students in the Southern province of Minya where the trials took place. Protesters blockaded vehicles in front of Minya University, set fire to an armored car, and attacked security forces using fireworks and bricks. In Cairo, students from Al-Azhar and Helwan Universities marched and burned tires. The same day, security forces used tear gas to disperse student protests at Mansoura University in the province of Dakahlia and at Alexandria University near the Mediterranean coast.

Meanwhile, the Criminal Court in the Egyptian province of Minya on Tuesday continued the trial of the MB’s top leader Mohamed Badie and 682 other MB members on charges that include murder, attempted murder, undermining public order, and attacking government and private organizations. This trial is being held just one day after 529 MB members were sentenced to death on similar charges.
