FARC’s leader, Rodrigo Londoño Echeverri, alias ‘Timoshenko’, on Monday denied the possibility of signing a peace accord to end armed conflict with the Colombian government in 2014.

Londoño told reporters that discussions on reparations to victims of the conflicts began Tuesday and will last for at least 4 months.  The subject of the surrender of arms and a bilateral ceasefire are two other remaining items on the negotiating agenda which are complex and time-consuming.

Regarding reparations for some 5.5 million victims, Londoño said that it would be fairest if they were allowed to participate in the discussion.

FARC says the peace process will necessitate institutional changes and it hopes to participate in political activities legally.
