(VOVworld) – A gun battle between security forces and a group of armed militants took place in the town of Arnia in Indian Kashmir on Thursday, killing at least three soldiers and three civilians.

Indian army spokesperson Manish Mehta said the militants attacked an army post in Arnia, about 4 kilometers from the border with Pakistan. Three guerrillas were killed but the gunfight continues. Elsewhere, Indian army troops foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control in Rajouri district.
The attack occurred prior to a visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Jammu to campaign for the Bharatiya Janata Party in the second phase of assembly elections.
