The Congress is attended by 1,000 representatives of 6.4 million youth members and 24 million young Vietnamese people, as well as state leaders, representatives of ministries and agencies, and heroic Vietnamese mothers.

Addressing the event, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said that Vietnamese youth are exercising a key role in national construction and defense. He urged young people and the Youth Union to continue striving for mastery in the new period.

“I ask the Youth Union to further revolutionary ideals and a virtuous lifestyle among the young generation. This is an imperative and a long-term strategic task. The Union needs to infuse trust of the Party and State into young people in order to uphold the predecessors’ tradition, particularly in learning and following the moral example of President Ho Chi Minh,” Mr. Trong noted.

The Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union is asking each affiliate at the grassroots level to come up with at least one solution to support disadvantaged youths so that there will be around 5 million incentives nationwide by 2022.

Le Quoc Phong, First Secretary of the Youth Union’s Central Committee, said: “We set a specific number of incentives so young people have a target to aim at. The Union doesn’t expect that all those 5 million incentives will ultimately enjoy both feasibility and funding. But our success depends upon young people being creative and daring to turn ideas into actions”.

On Sunday, youth members talked with representatives of the ministries of defense, security, environment, agriculture, and science.
