(VOVworld) - The National Assembly overwhelmingly elected Nguyen Xuan Phuc Vietnam’s Prime Minister on Thursday.

At the swearing-in ceremony, Mr. Phuc pledged to be absolutely loyal to the fatherland, the people, and the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and to make an all-out effort to fulfill all duties assigned by the Party, State, and people.
He said: “it’s a great honor and responsibility the Party, state, and people have entrusted and assigned to me. I will do my best to serve the fatherland and the people for the goal of building the Socialist Republic of Vietnam into a strong country with prosperous people living in a democratic, fair, and civilized society. As the government leader, I promise to work with other cabinet members to develop a strong, united, and effective government. We will uphold the achievements of previous governments and listen to the opinions and aspirations of the people and voters nationwide to fulfill socio-economic development goals, promote reform and international integration, accelerate administrative reform, and create a favorable business and investment environment. The government will also step up the fight against corruption and waste, and resolutely defend national independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.”

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phuc has been Chairman of the provincial Quang Nam People's Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Quang Nam Party Committee, Deputy Chief Government Inspector, Permanent Vice Chairman, Minister - Chairman of the Government Office, and Deputy Prime Minister for the 2011-2016 term. He has been a member of the Party Central Committee in the 10th, 11th, and 12th tenures and member of the Politburo in the 11th and 12th tenures.
