One day ahead the MSC, the Syria contact group convened a meeting in Munich where they reached consensus on a temporary ceasefire in Syria and humanitarian aid supply for the war-torn country.

German Foreign Minister Frank Walter Steinmeier said 17 participating countries including Russia and the US and representatives from the Arab League, the EU, and the UN agreed on the need to reach a ceasefire agreement in Syria within one week.

US Secretary of State John Kerry said apart from the ceasefire, delegates agreed that the Syria peace talks in Geneva should be resumed soon.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said the ceasefire will not be applied to jihadist groups including IS and al-Nusra Front while military activities against these rebel groups remain continued.
