(VOVWORLD) -The 14th National Party Congress will determine a new growth model to steer the country forward in a new era, Party General Secretary To Lam said on Monday at a meeting with veteran revolutionaries, national contributors, and exemplary policy beneficiaries in the southern region.

At the meeting in Ho Chi Minh City to mark the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the south and national reunification (April 30), General Secretary Lam said the history of the Vietnamese revolution records the especially heroic and loyal role of veterans, former youth volunteers and militiamen, who made sacrifices for national independence and unification and are contributing to national development today.

The Party leader informed the delegates about the state affairs, focusing on maintaining a peaceful, stable, secure and orderly environment in the country and the region; developing the socio-economy rapidly and sustainably; improving life of the people, especially the workers, the poor and the disadvantaged so that no one is left behind.

General Secretary To Lam said, “To advance these matters, the 14th National Party Congress documents are determining a new growth model for the country’s economy and building a modern national education system on par with the region and the world. We will adopt a resolution on education and training, aiming to have a generation of young people with enough courage, thinking, knowledge, health, and height to continue the cause of building and defending the country by 2045.”

Mr. Lam revealed an increase in health insurance support for people in difficult circumstances, and regular health check-ups, at least once a year, for everyone. The Party chief provided more information about rearranging and reorganizing administrative units and building two-tier local governments nationwide, which he described as a strategy to ensure sustainable, stable and long-term national development.
