(VOVWORLD) -The Trump administration said Friday that it is restoring the previously terminated legal statuses of hundreds of foreign students in the US, while it develops a policy related to managing foreign student records.

The decision was announced during a hearing in Boston, where the court is considering lawsuits filed by international students challenging their removal from the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), which manages the immigration and study status of international students in the US.
The US Department of Justice confirmed that the restoration of SEVIS records applies not only to students who have filed lawsuits but also to those who have not.
According to the American Immigration Lawyers Association, since President Trump took office on January 20, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement has removed over 4,700 students' records from SEVIS.
Many US universities have already supported international students, advising them to hire lawyers, continue their studies, and find solutions to complete their programs. They also advised students to limit their departures from the US during the summer break to avoid the risk of being denied re-entry.
