(VOVWORLD) -Party General Secretary To Lam on Wednesday expressed his gratitude to the armed forces and militiamen who fought in the resistance war for national independence, saying the Party and State always consider "repaying debts of gratitude" as one of the top political tasks.

Meeting with a large number of representatives of veterans, former youth volunteers, and militiamen in Hanoi on Wednesday, General Secretary Lam affirmed that the 1975 Spring Victory bears historical significance for the Vietnamese people and has an epochal stature as it strongly inspired the national liberation movement around the world. According to the Party leader, in that victory, it is impossible not to mention the special role of veterans, former youth volunteers, and militiamen.
“The Vietnamese generations today and tomorrow will forever remember the great sacrifices of those laid down their lives for the survival and development of the nation. I am deeply moved to pay tribute to the great contributions of the people, the armed forces, and historical witnesses who contributed to the Party’s revolutionary cause for national reunification.”
General Secretary To Lam said the system of preferential policies for people with meritorious services is unceasingly improved and becoming more humane. Subsidies, 100% health insurance, housing support, free medical examination and treatment, preferential loans, job creation, and care for children of people with meritorious services all demonstrate the responsibility and profound morality of the Party and State, he added.
Vietnam sets a goal that by 2030, all people with meritorious services and their families will have a fairly good standard of living or higher and will be cared for materially and spiritually.
