Vietnam, China deepen military ties through Border Defense Friendship Exchange

(VOVWORLD) - Activities under the Border Defense Friendship Exchange have contributed to realizing the Vietnam-China Year of Humanistic Exchange, serving as an important foundation for the maintenance of a stable border and promoting cooperation development between the two countries, Defense Minister Phan Van Giang said during talks in Lang Son province on Thursday with his Chinese counterpart Dong Jun. The talks were held as part of the 9th Vietnam-China Border Defense Friendship Exchange.

He urged the two Ministries of National Defense to continue strengthening delegation exchanges at all levels, maintaining existing cooperation mechanisms; and enhancing collaboration between border military zones, naval forces, and coast guards, and cooperation in land and sea border management.

Minister Giang reaffirmed that Vietnam attaches great importance to friendly relations with neighboring countries, and steadfastly upholds its “Four nos” national defense policy. 

Regarding the East Sea, he emphasized that Vietnam remains persistent in resolving disputes by peaceful means in line with the shared perceptions of high-level leaders of both countries, international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC). Vietnam also hopes China and ASEAN will soon sign the Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC).

Minister Giang invited Minister Dong to attend the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification on April 30 in Ho Chi Minh City, and invited the Chinese military to send a delegation to participate in the parade at the ceremony.

Minister Dong praised the successful 9th Vietnam-China Border Defense Friendship Exchange. The event, held immediately following the state visit to Vietnam by Chinese Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping, demonstrates the determination of the two Parties, States, and peoples to strengthen the traditional friendship, contributing to deepening the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries, he said. 

The two Ministers witnessed the signing of a sisterhood framework agreement between the Border Guard Station at Vietnam’s Huu Nghi International Border Gate and the Meeting Station of China’s Peng Xiang Border Guard Station.
