(VOVworld) – A conference was held in Ca Mau city on Monday to discuss ways to help Vietnam’s shrimp sector compete with other exporters. Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, who chaired the conference, said: "I urge the shrimp sector to earn 10 billion USD from exports by 2025 and become a major industry of Vietnamese agriculture. Inadequate high tech for intensive farming has resulted in
a modest productivity of 250 to 300 kilos of shrimp per hectare. If the productivity is doubled, we can immediately reach our goal.”

Prime Minister Phuc said the key for development of the shrimp sector is to apply advanced biotechnology, automation, and cloud computing from the 4th industrial revolution. The sector needs a production chain and improvements in packaging and branding Vietnamese shrimp products.
